Agroforestry

Industrial agroforestry operations produce substantial excess biomass that can be repurposes for durable carbon removal. For example, palm oil plantations typically harvest and replant the oil palm trees every 25 years, as their productivity begins to decline. The harvested trunks are typically allowed to decompose, releasing substantial CO2 in to the atmosphere. Carbon Lockdown is pursuing palm plantation Wood Vault projects, wherein the palm trunks are buried in Wood Vaults sited between the plantation rows, minimizing transportation distance and additional soil disturbance.
